Melissa Doherty is one of 200 painters included in Carte Blanche Vol. 2: Painting, a book providing a survey and showcase of the current state of painting in Canada. She attended the University of Waterloo, Canada, graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts and was recently given the Arts in Academics Alumni Recognition Award. Doherty was shortlisted in 2002 for the New Canadian Painting Competition through RBC Investments and the Canadian Art Foundation, and is a recipient of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Waterloo Regional Arts Fund. Her work has been included in exhibitions at The Harbourfront Centre and The Office of the Lieutenant Governor (Toronto), Art Chicago, the University of Waterloo, Bridge Art Fair (Miami), Melanee Cooper Gallery (Chicago), and the University of Toronto. She is a former member of the Red Head Collective in Toronto and is represented by the Edward Day Gallery, Toronto, and the Paul Kuhn Gallery in Calgary. Her work is represented in many public and private collections, including the Progressive Art Collection (U.S.), the FEMMARTE Collection, the Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Montreal and the University of Toronto. Melissa has an upcoming exhibition at the Musee des beaux Arts, Sherbrooke, Quebec in 2010.
